I think SO YOU THINK YOU CAN DANCE is the best show to watch on TV this quarter

I think this American season’s SO YOU THINK YOU CAN DANCE is the best show to watch on TV this quarter for me. The collection of dancers, the format and the judges are absolutely on top of their game! No fluff- just really constructive feedback given with a lot of caring and consideration for the people that they are giving feedback
The choreographers are coming up with some of the most amazing pieces and watching the dancers trying to work on them is testimony to the early selection of the top 20. They are the best of the best of the bunch. . Usually how I know the routine is brilliant is when it stops me in my tracks while I’m doing what I’m doing. And I have had a lot of those moments this season. I always like watching the audition shows because it gives me a sense of the journey and the quality of the selection process.
I love dance and I’m really passionate about it. I happen to have been a really good dance when I was growing up- I just could not take up dance then because it was not a “male” thing to do. At least not after 15! (hey I grew up in the townships- where there are certain rules about what it means to be a man!)
Anyway- I think the show is stunning- and the Las Vegas shows are even more exciting because I get to see Debbie Allen, who is one of the ultimate for me. The feedback to the dancers comprises for me some of the best lessons in dancing. I always encourage all the dancers I know to watch it- as a dance fan and sometimes critic, I have learned a lot about what’s “excellent”.
Oh- I should say something about Cat Deely as the compere and host- whose smile and professional demeanor just make even a really horrible show watchable. The respect and affirmation with which she treats the dancers and the judges alike is just amazing.
I love the show- it defines all that I think spells success- feel good moments, strife for excellence and professionalism with a human touch!
Catch SO YOU THINK YOU CAN DANCE on DSTV channel 110 Tuesdays and Thursdays at 19h00.
